Theme Park Boss Speaks At Wales Tourism Conference

25 February, 2014

The boss of Oakwood Theme Park was among the guest speakers at the recent South Wales Tourism Conference.

The event, which took place at the Parc Y Scarlets in Llanelli, played host to thousands of students from across Wales interested in a career in the leisure and tourism industry.

Taking place annually, the conference is a joint partnership with People 1st, Springboard: the Education Charity and South West Wales Regional Tourism Partnership.

Oakwood’s Park Director Dominic Jones presented a 45-minute workshop to students on guest services.

“It was a great opportunity for us to meet and talk to potential future employers and employees within the leisure and tourism industry and I was very impressed with the high level of commitment and enthusiasm,” he said.

“As a former Leisure and Tourism student myself it was wonderful to be able to give something back and, if the students I saw were anything to go by, Wales’ tourism future is going to be in safe hands,” he added.

Response to the workshop was so positive the Pembrokeshire theme park is now taking bookings from schools, colleges and universities keen to visit and learn more about the business as part of their studies.

“I was delighted with how much interest was shown on the day and it has resulted in us setting up a series of visits to the park for students to gain a deeper insight in to the day-to-day running of the theme park,” added Dominic.

“Tourism is one of the fastest growing industries in Wales at the moment and it’s crucial we continue to produce highly qualified and motivated people to take it forward,” he added.

Following on from a highly successful season in 2013, Oakwood is looking to recruit 35% more staff for the coming season.

Set in 80 acres of spectacular countryside Oakwood is Wales’ biggest family adventure with more than 30 exhilarating rides and amazing experiences to discover.

Oakwood Theme Park re-opens to the public on April 11th.
