THEME PARK OFFERS 6,000 FREE KIDS’ TICKETS TO RUNNERS
Oakwood Theme Park is offering 6,000 free kids’ tickets to people taking part in the forthcoming Long Course Weekend event in Tenby.
The Narberth attraction is the official sponsor for the Wales Marathon, which takes place on Sunday, July 5th and includes a half marathon and a 10k race.
The park is sending out Kids Go Free vouchers in the race packs for those taking part and are hoping it will provide the races and their families with a fun reward for all their hard work.
Oakwood Theme Park’s Clare Stansfield, who will be running in the event herself, said: “Both the Long Course Weekend and the Ironman event which takes place later in the year are extremely popular.
“They encourage literally thousands of people to visit the area and boost the local economy.
“As sponsors of the marathon we wanted to provide all those taking part with an added incentive and something their families can also enjoy,” she added.
The Oakwood Wales Marathon is now in its sixth year, and has grown to be among the most popular events for runners not just from the UK but from around the world.
This year’s race sees a team of professional runners from Africa taking part. The event has also become a stage for people to achieve not only personal goals, but as a platform to raise money for charity.
Event organiser Matthew Evans of Activity Wales said: “We’re delighted Oakwood Theme Park is supporting the weekend and providing opportunities for participants to relax and enjoy time with their families.”
The Oakwood Wales Marathon is great for all levels of runners as it also incorporates the Wales Half Marathon and the Wales 10k that join onto the same route as the marathon runners, adding something extra special to the run course.
The event is Wales’ only fully closed road marathon and it allows athletes to wholly take in the incredible Welsh scenery on the route, passing through stunning countryside, overlooking beautiful beaches and dramatic coastlines.
The race is also being filmed for television and last year’s event was broadcast to more than 560 million homes worldwide.
