Scott gets ready for the Carten 100

A team member at Oakwood Theme Park in Pembrokeshire is preparing for the ride of a lifetime when he cycles from Cardiff to Tenby next month.
Operations Supervisor Scott Ashman is aiming to ride 100 miles in a single day as part of the charity event to raise money for the Velindre Cancer Centre and the Withybush Hospital Special Care Baby Unit.
Scott will be taking part in the Carten 100 race on Saturday, May 7th along with up to 200 intrepid cyclists as part of a local group known as the ‘Tenby Aces’.
The race, which starts in Sophia Gardens in Cardiff, will finish in Tenby Town Square at around 6.15pm with the mass arrival of the cyclists.
“I’m a keen cyclist and have been training hard for the past few months. However 100 miles is a long way in a single day and I know it’s going to be a really tough event,” said Scott.
“From my point of view at least we’ll be finishing close to home and I won’t have too far to stagger afterwards!” he added.
The Carten began in 2004 when just four riders took part in the inaugural race. Last year more than 170 people took part and organisers are hoping this year’s event will prove even more popular.
Last year’s race raised more than £20,000 for Ty Hafan and, to date, the race has raised close to £50,000 for a variety of good causes.
This year the money rasied will go towards the Velindre Cancer Centre. The centre is the largest non – surgical cancer hospital in Wales providing radiotherapy, chemotherapy and other specialised anti-cancer treatments for over half the people of Wales.
They have been providing care and support to cancer patients in South Wales for over 50 years.
Additionally, profits from entries and shirt sales will be donated to Withybush Hospital Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU).
As well as Scott taking part in the race, Oakwood Theme Park is also donating tickets to a special raffle which is taking place on the day of the race.
