9 Incredible Days Out with the Kids in Pembrokeshire

30 October, 2018

This year’s summer heatwave give us a scorching backdrop for some truly amazing days out. And even as the seasons change, one thing stays the same: come rain or shine, the kids still need entertaining.
But don’t fret, shorter days don’t have to mean longer faces, because we’ve got a great list of family activities, from indoor climbing to castle adventures, that you can enjoy in Pembrokeshire.

1. Castell Henllys Iron Age Fort, Nr Newport

Turn back the clock 2000 years and experience the Iron Age lifestyle at this reconstructed hill fort. With children’s activities, craft demos and guided tours galore, it’s a great place to spend an afternoon and give the kids a glimpse of life long before Fortnite and Harry Potter existed.

2. Ocean Commotion, Tenby

This indoor soft play centre is an unforgettable all-weather adventure-fest for young explorers and adventurers. There’s an epic six-level 30 ft play frame to get lost in and a terrifying death slide for the real dare devils in your litter. There’s even an a fully padded baby zone to keep the tots entertained.

3. Pembroke Castle, Pembroke

Once home to Henry Tudor, this mighty fortress still stands tall, with plenty of passages, stairways and tunnels to explore whilst learning about the momentous events in local history that happened here. Bring a picnic if you dare to challenge the weather and roll out your blanket on the beautiful surrounding fields. Oh, and don’t forget to visit the brass rubbing centre to create a memorable souvenir to add to your own family history books.
Before you plan your visit, it’s always worth checking what events are on in the area. Battle reenactments and storytelling events are regular features in the castle diary.

4. The Dinosaur Park, Tenby

Before even castles and forts existed in the area, we had dinosaurs, and at the Dinosaur Park you can dig up some of your very own. Or wander around the dinosaur trail and spot any peeping or looming from the undergrowth. There are plenty of indoor and outdoor rides on site, and a soft play that makes for excellent fun no matter the weather. And no visit is complete without a spot of T-rex golf.

5. Clerkenhill Adventure Farm, Haverfordwest

Clerkenhill is always a giant hit with the kids, thanks to the four actual giants who live there. They’re usually to be found hanging around the crazy golf and frisbee golf courses, or keeping an eye on the mythical adventure trail. With tube tunnels, slides and a spooky forest, there’s plenty to thrill the kids for part or all of the day.

6. Hangar 5, Haverfordwest

Don’t leave the kids bouncing off the walls when they could be be bouncing around Hangar 5 and putting their energy to good use. With linked trampolines, angled walls and basketball nets, they’ll be high with adrenaline by the end of a session at Hangar

7. Blue Lagoon Waterpark, Narberth

With flumes, a wave pool and geysters, this is the place to get wet in style. This family-focused park caters for bathers of all levels, with wave seats and lazy rivers at one end of the scale, and the torpedo pool at the other, offering a very quick descent for anyone brave (or daft) enough to have a go. Nippers’ Cove is warm and shallow too, making it perfect for even the smallest family members.

8. The Overhang Indoor Climbing Centre, Tenby

Hanging out has never been more fun. If the kids are climbing up the walls at home, take them here and they can clamber up the walls with a taster session, or at one of the kids clubs that take place at the Overhang. With equipment available to hire or supplied with some of the sessions, all you need is comfortable clothes, decent trainers, and a head for heights.

9. Oakwood Theme Park, Pembrokeshire

Wales’ biggest and best theme park is Pembrokeshire’s must visit family attraction, with over 40 rides that offer thrills for every member of the family. And the fun doesn’t end when summer does. Check out our opening times to see what the park has to offer, and book your place at our late season extravaganzas, such as Spooktacular this Halloween and our spectacular season finale fireworks display.
