The new boss of Wales’ premier theme park says he’s overjoyed to be back in his homeland after a globetrotting career which has taken in Hong Kong and Walt Disney World Florida.
Dominic Jones has been appointed Park Director at Oakwood Theme Park in Pembrokeshire and is relishing the opportunity to run what he believes is the UK’s friendliest theme park.
Although still only 34, Dominic has got a wealth of experience having worked at Madame Tussauds as their Customer Service Manager, Thorpe Park and Chessington World of Adventures.
In addition to his extensive theme park background, he has also worked with Virgin Atlantic Airways; opening offices in Kenya and South Africa.
“I grew up visiting Oakwood Theme Park as a child and to now be in charge here is something of a dream come true,” said Dominic.
“It’s been an extraordinary first 25 years for the park and my aim is to make the next 25 even better.
“One of the key parts of my new job is to listen to our visitors and as part of that we’re re-introducing the Fireworks Finale to our After Dark events throughout July and August.
“Not only that but we’re doubling the length of the fireworks displays and enlisting the services of one of Wales’ top pyrotechnics companies to ensure the event is really special,” he added.
Originally from North Wales, Dominic graduated from Swansea Metropolitan University. While at Walt Disney World Florida he also represented Wales at the Disney University.
“I did my dissertation on the future of Welsh Visitor Attractions so now to be at the helm of somewhere like Oakwood is pretty amazing,” he said.
“I’ve got a young family and both myself and my wife were very keen that our son should be brought up here in Wales. Pembrokeshire is a great place to live with some excellent visitor attractions and I am excited about the future,” he added.
