A summer holiday has its pros and cons. The weather is usually the best during this time of year, with less rainfall and plenty of sunshine (or so they tell us), but it’s also the busiest time of year, which can be overwhelming and mean that you spend more time queueing than you would at other times of the year.
Autumn strikes the perfect balance between the warm weather of summer with the calmness of winter. As well as this, with the changing of the seasons come fantastic opportunities to see the wonderful scenery in a completely new way.
During autumn, Pembrokeshire has lots to offer, with the usual incredible scenery alongside specific events that centre around the uniqueness of autumn.
If you’ve decided to enjoy a staycation in Pembrokeshire this autumn, then you’re in the right place to learn about just a few of the things you can get up to as the leaves turn brown.
No matter the time of the year, the scenery in Pembrokeshire is absolutely stunning. While the trails and footpaths are a little bit quieter than they would be during peak times, they are still perfectly enjoyable in autumn with just a touch of sun particularly in September and October when the sun has still got its hat on.
The Coast Path is a 186-mile stretch of the Welsh coast that walkers can explore to experience incredible views of the sea, coastal plants and flowers, and wonderful wildlife.
The path offers great views of the Welsh sunset if you arrive on time.
The waters around Pembrokeshire offer a great chance to see Atlantic grey seals because they are protected by law. Although you can see these seals throughout the year, Autumn offers the best opportunity to spot seals with their pups because of the quieter nature of the beaches during this time.
In fact, the Island of Ramsey is the largest pupping site in southern Britain, with between 500 and 700 pups born there each year between September and December!
Whether you’re a beginner or a pro, autumn is considered to be a more reliable time for surfing, with some of the biggest swells appearing in October. As well as this, the temperature of the water is still fairly pleasant, meaning that you need not worry if you find yourself tumbling into the water.
The beaches are also quite quiet during this time, meaning that you can enjoy a nice day in the sun in peace while you watch the surfers if you don’t fancy catching a wave.
There are plenty of events that take place during autumn, with things like Halloween and Bonfire Night falling during these months. Let’s get some dates to book into your calendar for this autumn!
Narberth Food Festival takes place at the end of September each year. It takes place over two days and showcases the very best of local food, music, and other entertainment.
Oakwood is a great way to celebrate Oktoberfest, with plenty of German food and drink on offer as well as traditional music being played throughout. You’ll also be able to purchase a souvenir stein during your trip to commemorate the day! Find out more here.
Oakwood is used to offering thrills and screams, but during the annual Spooktacular, it’s not just the rides giving a fright to visitors! During the day, you can enjoy the rides as normal, but once darkness descends you can be sure to experience the scares of Halloween in a series of themed events. Take a look at more details here.
Autumn isn’t complete without the celebration of Bonfire Night in early November, and Oakwood loves pulling out all the stops for our Fireworks Spectacular. Jump on the rides as normal, and enjoy the wonderful fireworks displays once the sun sets! What could be better? Find out all the details here.
Tenby Blues Festival is renowned for its arrangement of fantastic blues performers from across the UK. On top of incredible music, you can also enjoy delicious food and drinks in the wonderful bars and cafes that are in Tenby.
In the months between summer and Christmas, there are plenty of things to be getting up to, that will not only provide hours or days of enjoyment but will also help get you into the festive spirit nice and early!
Even though we love the warm evenings in the summer, we don’t think you can beat the cosiness of a cool autumn evening complimented by great food and a warm drink!
Coastal towns in Pembrokeshire offer plenty of excellent eateries where you can enjoy the warmth of a log burner in a gastro pub after a long day walking the Coast Path.
At Oakwood, we’re huge fans of autumn. Not only does it offer some of the lovely weather that summer brings, but it’s also a great time for you to enjoy events taking place during the later stages of the year.
If you’ve got plans to visit Pembrokeshire during autumn, make sure to book your tickets in advance for Oakwood so that you can make sure that you can visit the events that you’d like to.
