The boss of Oakwood Theme Park was on hand to help award the Sir Harry Secombe Trust with the trophy for the Best Youth Organisation at the Wave and Swansea Sound Local Hero Awards 2014.
Clare Stansfield helped to present the award, which is sponsored by the Pembrokeshire theme park, to the Swansea-based group.
“I’m delighted we have been able to support this fantastic award and very pleased it has gone to such a wonderful organisation,” said Clare.
Members from the group, known as ‘Harry’s Angels’, were handed their trophy by Ruth Madoc.
Commenting on the decision to award them the trophy the judges said: ‘Harry’s Angel are all volunteers that give up their time to make this organisation work.
‘They do it through hard work, determination, passion and for a desire to give the children of Swansea the opportunity to realise their dreams and talents, express their feelings and give them confidence to go out into the world.’
“We are absolutely thrilled to have won Best Youth Organisation and we would like to thank everyone at Oakwood Theme Park for sponsoring this award,” said the Trust’s Sharon Roberts.
“The Sir Harry Secombe Trust is a non-profit-making Trust. We are a musical theatre group and all of our productions, concerts and shows are based on this genre.
“There are 120 children at any one time, split into two groups – 6-12 years and 13-21 years.
“Harrys is run by volunteers who freely give up so much of their time, to the benefit of all our students and to maintain the excellent performance reputation that we have built up.
“We love it and we are all very proud to be part of Team Harrys!” she added.
Sir Harry Secombe Youth Theatre is a non-profit making Trust. Founded in 2002 in memory of Sir Harry Secombe by Louise Cohen and Robert Francis-Davies.
The trust was set up with the intention of providing the youth of Swansea and surrounding areas the opportunity to receive the benefits of qualified tuition in musical theatre and to further themselves in performing arts.
