Scott's cycling 100 miles for a Diabetes Charity!

A team member at Oakwood Theme Park in Pembrokeshire is preparing for the ‘ride of a lifetime’ when he cycles from Cardiff to Tenby this weekend.
Operations Supervisor Scott Ashman is aiming to ride 100 miles in a single day as part of the charity event to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
For Scott this will be the second year running that he has taken part in the Carten 100 race as part of the ‘Tenby Aces’ along with up to 600 intrepid cyclists.
The race, which starts in Sophia Gardens in Cardiff on Saturday, May 12th, will finish in Kiln Park, Tenby at around 6.15pm with the mass arrival of the cyclists.
“I’m a keen cyclist and have been training hard for the past few months. However 100 miles is a long way in a single day and, if it’s anything like last year, I know it’s going to be a really tough event,” said Scott.
“From my point of view at least we’ll be finishing close to home and I won’t have too far to stagger afterwards!” he added.
The Carten began in 2004 when just four riders took part in the inaugural race. Last year over 300 people took part and organisers are hoping this year’s event will see the number of participants more than double.
In 2011 the race raised more than £50,000 for Velindre Cancer Centre and, to date, the race has raised close to £100,000 for a variety of good causes.
This year the money raised will go towards the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation). JDRF exists to find the cure for type 1 diabetes and its complications, and is the world’s leading charitable funder of Type 1 diabetes research.
