Oil aboard the "green" train at Oakwood!

Visitors to Oakwood Theme Park this season will be transported to the rides at the park on a train that runs on its own recycled cooking oil.

Oakwood has teamed up with Pembrokeshire based Celtic Biodiesel to recycle the cooking oil from the kitchens of Oakwood’s catering outlets and convert it into biodiesel fuel.

The fuel substitute biodiesel significantly reduces carbon dioxide emissions so passengers on Oakwood’s mini train can sit back and enjoy the ride into the park without worrying about damaging the environment.

Paddy McNamara, Managing Director at Oakwood Theme Park said: “We’re constantly striving at Oakwood to do our bit for the environment and had been looking into environmentally friendly fuel for some time. And with Celtic Biodiesel right here on our doorstep in Pembrokeshire it enables Oakwood to continue its commitment to local suppliers.”

Alastair Pollard, at Celtic Biodiesel says: “Each week we are converting 1,000 litres of Oakwood’s cooking oil into a biodiesel that now fuels their diesel train engine.  We really appreciate Oakwood’s custom and hope that everyone enjoys the more pleasant aroma as the train puff’s into and out of the park on its great new green fuel.”

Paddy adds: “With a busy 2007 season expected we hope to be converting more and more cooking oil to transport our visitors into the park in a quirky environmentally friendly way for their fun filled day out.”
