Devon company helps create “Neverland”
A Devon theming company has helped created a spectacular version of Peter Pan’s ‘Neverland’ for a theme park in Wales.
Barnstaple-based Tantonite were brought in to create a series of iconic new features for the £4m development at Oakwood Theme Park in Pembrokeshire which opened at the weekend.
As well as building the giant arched entrance in to the new family-themed area, Tantonite recreated a section of Edwardian London in the heart of the Welsh countryside and the outside of the Darling family home in Kensington Gardens.
Tantonite also helped build a full-size ‘Wendy’ House, as well as the entrance and interior of ‘Skull Rock’ a giant log flume ride which feature the infamous ‘Captain Hook’.
Established in 1990, the scenic theming company has an international reputation for creating accurate and highly realistic rock and stonework for theme parks and other leisure attractions.
Owner Richard Tanton said: “It was an absolute pleasure to work for Oakwood and their team and great to be a part of this exciting new project.
“We’re all extremely proud of what we have managed to achieve and hope it proves just as popular with visitors to the park.”
Occupying more than three acres, the new area features 10 new rides and attractions.
Visitors can take a whirlwind journey through Edwardian London in a black taxi cab, before visiting Kensington Gardens, home of the Darling family, and the beginning of an extraordinary journey in to Neverland
Among the other new rides are the ‘Lost Boys Adventure’, ‘Neverland Chase’, ‘Tink’s Flying School’, ‘Crocodile Coaster’, ‘Jolly Roger’ mini galleon. ‘Hook’s House of Havoc’ soft play and the ‘Sights of London’ taxi ride featuring Big Ben, the Tower of London and Nelson’s Column.
Oakwood Theme Park director, Dominic Jones, said: “Tantonite helped us realise our Neverland dream and we’re absolutely delighted with the results and their amazing attention to detail.
“Visitors really do feel as though they’ve somehow been transported back in time to turn-of-the-century London,” he added.
